Mr.Gopalrathinam on Construction Management Techniques




Following its previous success, The School of Civil Engineering yet again organized a guest lecture by Mr.Gopalrathinam, Director, SGR CONSTRUCTIONS, on the topic ‘Construction Management Techniques. The event complied with the formal code and was inaugurated by seeking the blessings of almighty it was further carried on with welcome address delivered by Mr.R.Shanmugavel, Student chairman, CEA. The distinguished guest of honour was introduced to the gathering by Honourable Dean of School of Civil Engineering, Dr.S.Seshadri.

Mr.Gopalrathinam started his lecture on a personal note and recalled his bonding with the SASTRA University.He happens to have constructed the earliest established structures of the University namely, GnanaVihar, SAT Vihar and the Visweshwaraya Hall block which have stood the test of time till date.He instilled necessity to follow the IS codes and National Building Codes for constructing an successful building.He also covered the management aspects of civil engineering and quoted many case studies and even some of his own experience on handling raw materials, channelizing workforce,efficient transportation and quality control. Since he specializes on Earthquake resistant structures,he panned out the scope of his lecture onto that area too.The audience was eager to learn more from him.And so he offered the students of the Final year a visit to his ongoing project at Vadapalani, Chennai, which is an Earthquake Resisting structure.This provided a field experience for the final year students,which is very much needed in the industry.On a final note,the lecture was enlightening on a holistic aspect.The queries session was even more interesting as many innovative questions were posed.The guest was more than thrilled to answer.

The event came to curtain down after The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms.BhavyaRavinder, Joint Secretary, CEA and the National Anthem was sung with pride which was a fitting end for the event.Once again the event was a grand success.
